Pier 28 Maduro Corona 3/25/18

 Appearance
The dark chocolate colored wrapper has a couple of veins but I wouldn’t call them prominent. Their is a satiny finish to the wrapper with a nice oily sheen. The seams are tightly wrapped and their is a little
tooth. The filler bunch is well packed but has a soft spot up at the head.

Aroma
Chocolate, cedar and leather on the wrapper. Chocolate, cedar at the foot.

Prelight Draw
Chocolate, earth, dried fruit, spice.

1st
The initial draws are very earthy and chocolatey with some black pepper spice. The dried fruit from the Prelight Draw joins in right away too. The draw is perfect. Burn is spot on as well. The ash is medium gray and stacked. There are some distinct black tea notes joining the profile. The smoke production is at the high end of medium. Strength starts at medium. Ash holds firm til removal.

2nd
The profile so far is very well balanced. Strength moves to medium+. The black pepper is beginning to dominate the profile. Late in the 2nd/3rd the Draw gets a bit snug.

Final/3rd
The black pepper is still dominating the profile. Strength is at med/full. Draw opened just before I nubbed it.

Overall
The Pier 28 Maduro Corona provides a somewhat enjoyable smoking experience. A tasty profile for the 1st half of the cigar got overrun by heavy black pepper.

2nd
Upon inspection of the working end I find a couple of small tunnels on the faster burning side. The draw has opened up nicely. Strength moves to medium+. Burn has begun self correcting. Smoke production is at the low end of high range. A nice espresso note has joined the profile.

Final/3rd
The finish is long with notes of cedar, leather, espresso, almonds and a black pepper & cinnamon spice.
The flavor profile remains consistent right to the nub.

Very faint tobacco on the wrapper. Slight cedar at the foot. This is what happens to cigars without cello. No cold aroma.

Tobacco, cedar and sweetness.

1st
The initial draws bring notes of cedar and hay. The draw is a bit snug. The burn is wavy. The ash is light gray, stacked and flaky. There is a white pepper spice developing with a bit of cinnamon for a nice combination. Ash was suspect but held til removal.

2nd

Draw is opening up and smoke production moves up to the high end of medium. The finish is long with notes of cedar, faint sweetness, hay, mild coffee and cinnamon spice with a pinch of white pepper. Near the end of the 2nd/3rd the spice becomes more like crushed red pepper( never a bad thing).

Final/3rd
The flavor profile continues unchanged into the final/3rd. The strength & body have been medium throughout.

Overall
The CLE Habano Cuarenta Robusto provides an enjoyable smoking experience. Once the draw opened up and the burn self corrected they were spot on til the nub. Nice flavor and well balanced.

The Wedding

 Sat, 6 Mar 2004 08:23:56 -0700

The wedding went very well . The bride was beautiful, the mother of the bride looked radiant, the brother of the bride looked studdly, and the father of the bride well what can I say that wouldn't appear to be bragging , I looked sensational !!!

Picture this .
It's a typical Arizona day, warm, sunny, gentle breeze. A white stretch limousine pulls to the front of the LaPre home, the bride and her matron of honor bound through the door and head for the limo, followed closely by the bridesmaids (several), the mother of the bride, and bertha, the mothers sister. They all pile in and head for the salon for new hairdo's and nail's touched up.

Meanwhile the father of the bride breath's a sigh of relief, Quiet at last!! (a house full of women preparing for a wedding is rather noisy, ok a house full of women is noisy period). Several hours later the fob heads to the salon , chats briefly with the limo driver then goes inside to see that his money was well spent (accent on the spent part). All the women (girls) looked splendid. Fob paid the bill (ya the whole bill) and as the ladies all had there picture taken while they got back into the limo, fob hopped back into his freshly washed, waxed and detailed badboy lifted maroon chevy truck (you remember the one ). The girls were whisked back home to pick up their dresses, and other personal items too numerous to discuss at this time, then embarked on a scenic trip to the chapel (fob told the driver to take the scenic route as we were ahead of schedule, yes sirree bob when it absolutely positively has to be there on time you know who to call !!).

After arriving at the chapel the fob distributed several cases of martinelli's sparkling cider( for toasting the bride and groom as well as the bottles of Dom for the bridle party. At about this time the limo arrived . The fob helped the ladies to their changing room where they all helped the bride to get into her gown. After making the rounds, surveying the situation, seeing that all was under control and approximately 45 minutes before the ceremony was to begin. The fob still dressed in casual clothing sat relaxing in the front row of the chapel reading a book. About 10 minutes into his reading he received a call on his cell phone, the call was from claudia a friend of the brides mother who was delivering the food for the reception which was prepared by a local establishment that the fob had contracted several days before. Claudia very calmly explained to him that she was in a minor accident but that she would not be able to make it to the chapel on time. As she was speaking he glanced at his watch,2:25 . Quickly and effortlessly he scanned the area looking for someone to go and retrieve the food and bring it to the chapel,at that moment the apple that did not fall far from the tree entered his peripheral vision. The fob then told claudia to sit tight help was on the way. While he was talking with claudia he was also motioned to his son to double time to his location. Jr and the other groomsman that was with him arrived as he hung up the phone. He quickly and calmly informed them of their mission, neither had a vehicle suitable for the mission so the fob again scanned the area and saw the best man approaching. Before the fob finished his sentence, the bestman had put his keys in fob's hand, who in turn put them in the groomsmans hand and said go,now. As they turned and ran off to complete the mission the fob smiled ,calmly walked back to his prior seat, sat back down and resumed his reading. 15 minutes later he went to the mens dressing area joining the groom, bestman, and the grooms dad to dress for the ceremony .
The men on the mission arrived and dressed with several minutes to spare,at a later date they will receive their meritorious service awards.
At this time the fob gathered up the bride and her entourage to guide her past the aft of the chapel so that no person might see her before the appointed time. When they were out of sight of the throng of those hopeful to catch a glimpse of his princess bride, he carefully guided her to the elevator that led to the top floor, exiting the elevator they walked arm in arm around the upper floor to the designated area where the triumphant march was to begin. This journey took exactly 2 minutes and 30 seconds, precisely the amount of time needed for the bridal party procession to be complete.(yes all times were verified by the fob beforehand, to insure that all was done in a proficient military manner).
On a gesture from the fob the dj (yes also hired by the fob)began the processional (yes, aka here comes the bride, your right up to speed ) at which time the fob carefully guided his cinderella in glass slippers down the massive grand staircase and into the center aisle. The fob looked very dashing in his custom tailored tuxedo (by mens warehouse),high & tight hair (USMC standard issue)and topping off with maui jims (right again, sunglasses. It was bright sunshine you know.)
After walking her down the aisle and giving her hand to her very deserving suitor Sean, vows were exchanged and the reception began. The rest of the ceremony went off without a hitch.
Their departure from the reception was something not many people have ever done (in fact the fob was told it would be next to impossible to arrange),at a predetermined time 6:30 a fire truck arrived to take them away from the reception off into married bliss. As the fire truck pulled away with horns and sirens ablaze the mob(mother of the bride, I know you know but I need the practice [typing]) broke into tears along with many others , but the fob just smiled and said "I love it when a plan comes together".

To those who could not be here I hope this paints a good enough picture for you so that you can share in the tremendous joy we felt that special day.

Love
 Steve & Debbie
