The Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper is slightly mottled and has a couple prominent veins but mostly capillaries. The seams are tightly wrapped. It has a good bit of tooth and a nice oily sheen. The cigar is well packed with no soft spots.

Aroma

Earthy tobacco, cocoa and a hint of spice on the wrapper. Earth, fruity sweet, cedar and spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Earthy, fruity, light cocoa, cedar, leather, warm cinnamon spice and a pinch of black pepper.

1st

The initial draws find earthy notes with oily tobacco undertones. The finish is long with sweet fruity notes and a cinnamon spice lingering with a pinch of black pepper at the tail end. Burn so far is nearly perfect. Draw is perfect. The ash is salt&pepper gray and stacked. The fruity notes join the profile about a 1/2" in. The spices taper back around the 1" point. Ash becomes a bit tighter and a little flaky. A leathery texture joins the profile alongside some cedar. The black pepper works it's way back into balance in the profile.

2nd

The 2nd/3rd begins with very well balanced notes of earth, cedar, leather, fruit, cocoa, cinnamon spice and a pinch of black pepper spice. The strength which started at medium is now medium+. The body is full. Midway in the 2nd a nice espresso joins the profile. Smoke production is at the low end of high. The black pepper fades again. The cinnamon becomes more like a pimentón(Spanish paprika) late in the 2nd. A nice cashew note makes its presence known.

Final/3rd

Perfect burn, draw and balanced flavor profile continue into the final/3rd. The strength moves to the low end of med/full while the body remains at full. The spice moves to the low end of crushed red pepper near the nub.

Nomad Martial Law Toro 11/14/16

Appearance

A medium brown colored wrapper with a few prominent veins. The seams are tightly wrapped. The filler bunch appears to be well packed with no soft spots.

Aroma

Cedar and Sweet tobacco with a hint of spice on the wrapper. Cedar, fruit and a hint of spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Sour tobacco and spice.

1st

The sour note from the prelight comes through in the initial draws(maybe Fred used skittles for fertilizer?). There is a little dry toast flavor as well. The spice is a cinnamon/white pepper mix. The draw is perfect. The burn has a slight wave. The ash is light gray & stacked with a bit of flake. There is a little black pepper registering in the back of the palate. About midway in the 1st/3rd the sour note fades and a nice leather texture appears. There is also a graham crackerlike note. The burn has self corrected. I removed the ash at 1 3/4" as it was looking suspect. Very well balanced profile so far.

2nd

Strength so far is at medium+. Smoke production is in the medium range. The finish is long with notes of cedar, warm cinnamon, graham cracker, black/white pepper and leather. Burn is back to wavy but begins to self correct just past midway in 2nd/3rd. Crushed red pepper joins the profile. Strength is at the low end of med/full. The flavor profile is still well balanced.

Final/3rd

Burn has fully self corrected again. The ash is mostly tight with no flakes. The flavor profile remains consistent through the final/3rd.

Overall the Nomad Martial Law provides a very enjoyable smoking experience. A well balanced and mildly complex flavor profile.

Another fine blend by Fred Rewey @GodFadr

I recommend you give it a try.

GTO Pain Killer Maduro Box Press Toro 11/13/16

Appearance

The wrapper is dark and a bit mottled with tight seams and a couple prominent veins. It has a nice soft box press and a light oil sheen. The bunch is well packed with no spongy areas.

Aroma

Dark chocolate, earthy with a hint of spice on the wrapper. Chocolatey, earthy, fruity with a hint of spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Earthy, dark chocolate, dried fruit, molasses and a very faint hint of spice.

1st

Initial draws bring notes of earthy, sweet dark chocolate and a very faint hint of cinnamon spice. The draw starts out a bit snug. The burn has a slight wave. The ash is medium gray and fairly tight with a few flakes. The fruity note is there but in the background. There is also a chewy seared beef type of flavor present in the profile. The draw has opened up nicely late in the 1st/3rd.

2nd

Just into the 2nd/3rd the chewy meaty flavor fades and the fruity flavor moves up a tic. The spice has finally become more prominent. Smoke production is in the high range. Several draws later the meaty, earthy note returns(not a bad thing). Strength has been mostly medium till the mid point of the cigar when it went to medium+. The finish is long with notes of earth, cedar, chewy meat, cocoa powder, fruit and cinnamon spice. Draw is perfect and the burn which has been wavy from the beginning has almost fully self corrected.

Final/3rd

About a 1/2" into the final/3rd the spice moves from cinnamon to warm cinnamon then to crushed red pepper. The burn is razor sharp. The strength finishes at a strong medium+. The well balanced flavor profile

remains consistent through the final/3rd.

Overall the GTO Pain Killer Maduro provides a very enjoyable smoking experience. A very well balanced, flavorful and somewhat complex flavor profile.

The Tabernacle by Foundation Cigar Co Robusto Maduro 11/10/16

Appearance

The dark wrapper has a couple prominent veins but is fairly silky other than that. The seams are tightly wrapped and nearly invisible. The cigar is well packed with filler with no spongy spots. It has a nice oily sheen.

Aroma

Earthy, cocoa and a hint of spice on the wrapper. Chocolate, cedar and earth at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Earthy, cocoa, cedar, a hint of fruit and a bit of cinnamon spice on the lips and tongue.

1st

The initial draws bring lots of earth, cedar and cocoa with the cinnamon spice. You can really see the oily texture in the early morning sun. Strength is medium+ and noticeable. The burn is spot on and the draw is perfect as well. The ash is light gray and slightly stacked and tight. The fruity notes come to the surface and blend nicely with the earth, cocoa, cedar and cinnamon spice. As it burns the ash becomes more tight and holds strong till removal at the 1/3 mark.

2nd

I'm noticing the chewy texture which is typical of Conn. Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. The flavor profile is very well balanced. The smoke production is at the low end of high. The spice moves to a warm cinnamon with a pinch of crushed red pepper albeit still well balanced. The finish is long with all of the aforementioned flavors being well balanced.

Final/3rd

The burn gets off a bit but nothing to write home about then quickly begins to self correct. The crushed red pepper becomes more prominent but still within balance. The cigar finishes at the low end of med/full.

Overall The Tabernacle provides a very enjoyable smoking experience. A very flavorful, complex and very well balanced profile with a great burn and draw.

Sindicato Masters Series by Rocky Patel Toro 10/30/16

Appearance

The dark brown colored wrapper has a couple of prominent veins and a minor imperfection below the secondary band. The seams are tight. The orange color on the bands provides a nice contrast to the wrapper leaf. It has a light oil sheen.

Aroma

Very earthy, espresso, cocoa, charred wood on the wrapper. Dried fruit and spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Black licorice, molasses

1st

The initial draws bring forth notes of cedar with spice. There are notes of cocoa and light roast coffee bean joining the profile. The draw is a tick snug but I'm confident that will change. The burn line is spot on. Ash is medium gray and tight on one half and stacked on the other and a bit flaky all over. Strength is at medium+. A very light molasses note joins the profile. Ash dropped into the tray at 1 3/4". Draw has opened up nicely.

2nd

Upon removal of the secondary band I notice an imperfection in the wrapper which was previously hidden. The finish is medium in length with a sweetness that lingers. Smoke production is medium.  The profile is very creamy at the midway point then goes to back to woody & spicy.

The burn gets a bit wavy right before reaching the primary band. Spice transitions from a mild cinnamon to a crushed red pepper. Strength has moved to the low end of med/full.

Final/3rd

Ash becomes a little tighter after the halfway point of the cigar. The spice tapers back to a warm cinnamon midway in the final/3rd. The flavor profile remains woody with a pinch of sweetness.

Overall the Sindicato Masters Series by Rocky Patel provides a very enjoyable smoking experience. A complex and well balanced flavor profile. A must try!

Joya Black Robusto 10/28/16

Appearance

The cigar has a dark chocolate looking wrapper with a few prominent veins. Tight seams. There is a slight bit of tooth and a very light oil sheen. It has a nice 3-seam cap.

Aroma

Earth, cedar and black licorice on the wrapper. Cedar, sweetness and a hint of spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Earth, cedar, licorice, molasses and very faint hint of spice.

1st

The initial draws bring out the earthy, cedary flavor. Some molasses enters the profile, very sweet. Followed immediately by a cinnamon spice. Ash is salt&pepper gray, a little stacked and flaky. Burn is off by 30*. Draw is a bit snug. Strength is a solid medium.

2nd

Ash tightens up with minor flaking. Smoke production is low to medium. Upon removal of the band I realize there was too much vegetable glue used, ruining an otherwise beautiful band. Good thing we don't smoke the bands. The earthy, cedar, molasses and cinnamon spice remain consistent. A mild black pepper joins the profile. Burn line has fully self corrected midway in the 2nd/3rd. Strength has moved to medium+.

Final/3rd

The finish is long with notes of earth, cedar, molasses, mild black pepper and cinnamon spice all well balanced.

Overall the Joya Black Robusto provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A flavorful and well balanced profile. Definitely a cigar to keep in the humidor.

Appearance

The light brown wrapper has a couple prominent albeit thin veins and a smooth texture. The seams are tightly wrapped. The wrapper has a matte type finish as far as the oil is concerned. The band is a beautiful work of Art.

Aroma

Earth, hay and a faint citrus aroma on the wrapper and the same at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Earth, cedar, citrus sweetness, bread, mixed nuts and spice.

1st

Initial draws reveal bready notes alongside some mixed nuts. The draw is snug. The burn line has a bit of a wave. The ash is light gray, stacked and a bit flaky. The spice begins developing right away as well. It seems to start out as a white pepper with a faint hint of black. Some citrus notes join the profile late in the 1st/3rd. The strength is at the top end of medium. There is also a honey like sweetness.

2nd

The finish is long with notes of earth, fresh bread, citrus, mixed nuts, honey and a mix of white & black pepper spice. Smoke production is in the medium range. The flavors are well balanced. The texture of the smoke is creamy. The draw begins to loosen up at the midway point of the cigar. Strength moves to medium+. AVO Syncro II Fogata Robusto 10/22/16

Appearance

The wrapper is slightly darker than milk chocolate with a couple prominent veins. The seams are tightly wrapped. The band colors provide a nice contrast to the wrapper color. There is a nice light oil sheen on the wrapper.

Aroma

Earthy, woody aroma with some floral on the wrapper. Earth, oak, cedar, sweetness and a faint hint of spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Earth, cedar, leather, wheat, honey and the beginnings of a nice cinnamon spice.

1st

The initial draws reveal that classic rich earthy Nicaraguan tobacco flavor. The draw is perfect. The burn is a bit wavy. The strength is at medium+ already. The ash is medium gray and has chunky flakes falling off in the first 3/4". Bread and leather notes join the flavor profile. There is an interesting flavor of char & sweetness kind of like marshmallows at the campfire.

2nd

The cinnamon spice is becoming more prominent than in the 1st/3rd but still in balance. The ash gets a bit tighter with minor flakes. High smoke production. The finish is long with notes of earth, cedar, oak, bread, leather and cinnamon spice. Burn has fully self corrected. Due to the flaky and suspect looking ash I have been removing halfway in each 3rd.

Final/3rd

Burn line went off by 22* to start the final/3rd but quickly self corrected. Flavor profile remains consistent through the final/3rd. The strength finishes at the low end of med/full.

Overall the AVO Syncro II Fogata Robusto provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A well balanced and flavorful profile with a perfect draw.  Definitely a cigar to try as it might be a regular in your rotation.

El Centurion H•2K•CT Corona box-pressed 10/20/16

Appearance

The bands are quite attractive but they hide a lot of the wrapper. What I can see of it the wrapper is almost silky and there is very little vein visible. The seams are tightly wrapped. The cigar is firm from head to foot. A very nice soft box pressed stick. The hybrid wrapper is dark for a Connecticut.

Aroma

Earthy barnyard, dried fruit and a hint of spice on the wrapper. The same at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Cedar, dried fruit, almonds, honey sweetness and a hint of spice.

1st

The initial draws elicit notes of cedar, almond and a hint of spice. Interestingly the burn line is parallel to the wrapper seam. Allowing physics to do its thing the burn begins self correcting. The ash is salt&pepper gray and stacked. The spice reminds of white pepper at this point.

2nd

It appears that some black pepper has joined the profile. The honey sweetness from the Prelight has joined the profile tempering the black pepper nicely. The finish is long with notes of cedar, dried fruit, honey, almonds and a warm cinnamon like spice. Draw has been perfect from the start. Strength started at medium and is now medium+. Burn has fully self corrected. Ash holds firm till removal at each 3rd. The black pepper reemerges.

Final/3rd

Profile remains consistent thru the final/3rd. Strength moves to med/full.

Overall the El Centurion H•2K•CT provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A well balanced flavorful profile with a perfect draw.

Thanks to my brother Tony Toland @CigarGent_CV66 for the cigar for review.

Las Calaveras 2016 10/16/16

Appearance

A nice dark wrapper with a couple prominent veins. The seams are nice and tight. The wrapper has a nice oily sheen and is a bit toothy.

Aroma

As with most cigars that don't have cello, there is not much of any aroma on the wrapper or at the foot.

Prelight Draw

A light black licorice, earth, cocoa and spice.

1st

The initial draws reveal notes of earth and black pepper spice. The black pepper is ok at this point as it's not overpowering the rest of the blend. The draw is a bit snug. The burn line is nearly razor sharp. The ash is medium to dark gray and mostly tight. At an inch in several changes occur. The draw improves noticeably, the strength of the cigar goes from medium to medium+ and espresso joins the flavor profile. Near the end of the 1st/3rd the spice tapers off considerably.

2nd

A cleaner more citrus like flavor emerges. Smoke production is med/high. The burn is off 20* but we'll see what happens. The finish is long with notes of earth, cocoa, espresso, black pepper and citrus. Smoke production increases midway through the 2nd/3rd. Burn has fully self corrected(physics 101). Flavors are very well balanced. Cashew notes join the profile. Strength becomes med/full.

Final/3rd

Warm cinnamon joins the profile. The flavor profile remains consistent throughout the final/3rd.

Overall the Las Calaveras 2016 provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A very well balanced and complex flavor profile. A definite must try that finishes at the low end of med/full in strength.

Aroma

Earthy and sweet with a slight hint of spice on the wrapper. Not as aromatic at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Black licorice, coffee, spice.

1st

Initial draws yield a bold cedary, leathery flavor with a white pepper and paprika spice kick. Strength is medium+. Draw is a bit snug. Burn has a little wave to it. Ash is medium gray and stacked with a few flakes. Draw opened up and burn has fully self corrected by the end of 1st/3rd.

Overall the Camacho Powerband Robusto provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A nicely balanced flavor profile with a good spice kick. Definitely a stick to keep in the humi if you like a tasty and bold cigar.

Fonseca Nicaragua Robusto 10/8/16

Appearance

The wrapper is a dark chocolatey looking and toothy leaf from Nicaragua. The seams are tight. The new band is an interesting departure from the old bands but then this is a new venture of sorts, as this is the 1st cigar bearing the Fonseca name to be made in Nicaragua. It's made at @PlasenciaCigars factory. There is a slight oil sheen. It is a puro.

Aroma

Very earthy and chocolatey on the wrapper. Earthy, plum sweetness and a faint hint of spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Earthy, cocoa powder, molasses, bread and a hint of spice.

1st

The initial draws bring notes of moist earth with a mild cinnamon spice. It's a very dry smoke. Burn is off by about 30*. The draw is perfect. The beauty of physics is at work as the burn is self correcting. The ash is salt&pepper gray and fairly tight. Late in this 3rd the plum sweetness joins the profile and the smoke becomes less dry.

2nd

Burn has almost fully corrected by the start of the 2nd/3rd. It has very good smoke production. The bready notes join the profile midway in 2nd. There is also a cashew note developing. Strength has been mild to medium and now is leaning to medium+. A light black pepper joins the cinnamon spice.

Final/3rd

The flavor profile is nicely balanced. The finish is long and balanced with notes of earth, cocoa, plum, bread, cashew and cinnamon spice with a hint of black pepper.

Overall the Fonseca Nicaragua Robusto provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A flavorful and balanced profile. At around $6 it's a good stick to keep in the humi.

Matilde Quadrata Robusto 10/2/16

Appearance

The dark brown wrapper has a slightly mottled appearance. There are a couple prominent veins but mostly it has a smooth texture. There is a light oil sheen though some spots seem to have more oil. The 3-seam cap is well done. The bands are beautiful. It is a box pressed stick that feels silky and oily to the touch.

Aroma

Earth, cocoa, hay and a hint of spice on the wrapper. Almost no aroma at the foot.

Prelight Draw

Candy, cedar, earth, licorice and spice.

1st

Initial draws bring notes of cedar and a soft leather with a definite saltiness as well as a mild cinnamon spice beginning to develop. The ash is dark salt&pepper gray and stacked. At 3/4" in that candy like sweetness jumps into the mix. The draw is perfect and the burn is slightly wavy but I'm allowing it to correct itself as is normal for me. There seems to be an underlying white pepper note. I removed the ash as it was looking a little suspect.

2nd

The mild cinnamon seems to be getting warmer and the burn is nearly razor sharp starting the 2nd/3rd. The finish is long and flavorful with notes of earth, cedar, candy sweetness, salt, soft leather, warm cinnamon and a faint white pepper. Burn line has become wavy again. The strength started medium and is at medium+ at the midway point of the cigar. Smoke production is very good. The warm cinnamon has tapered back a bit.

Final/3rd

Strength is now at med/full. Flavors are the same as the first 2/3 of the cigar and well balanced. The cinnamon spice is becoming warmer and more prominent becoming more like a curry spice. A coffee note joins the profile late in the final/3rd.

Overall the Matilde Quadrata provides a very enjoyable smoking experience. A very well balanced flavorful and mildly complex cigar. This is a Must try cigar. I'll be keeping some in my humidor.
