Joseph NicaVana Maduro Exclusivo Toro 11/10/18

 Appearance
The dark chocolate looking Maduro wrapper is a bit toothy and has a few medium sized veins. The seams are tightly wrapped and difficult to find. It has a light oil sheen and feels oily to the touch. The filler bunch is well packed with no apparent soft spots.

Aroma
Earth, chocolate, cedar and some sweetness on the wrapper. Cedar, faint molasses and spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw
Earth, molasses, cedar, a tiny bit of licorice and spice.

1st
The initial draws bring notes of earthy molasses and cedar with a mild cinnamon spice in the background. About 5/8” in some fruity notes join the profile. The ash is almost white and tight. The draw and burn are perfect. There is also a pinch of black pepper spice at the end of the long finish. The ash becomes stacked on one side while the other remains tight. Just an observation. Dark chocolate notes join the already flavorful profile. The ash held straight and firm till removal. It would have held strong longer had I not removed it.

2nd
Smoke production is at the low end of high range. Cashew notes bring a creamy texture to the profile. The flavorful profile is very well balanced. The finish is long with notes of earth, molasses, cedar, fruity sweetness, dark chocolate, cashew and a mild cinnamon spice with a pinch of black pepper. The fruity notes keep the palate feeling clean. Great complexity. Strength has been medium since the start. The black pepper spice has tapered off.

Final/3rd
The flavorful and perfectly balanced profile rolls into the final/3rd with the cinnamon spice becoming warm cinnamon. Strength moves up to medium+. Smoke production is at the high range. The spice becomes more like a crushed red pepper spice. Burn & draw remain perfect to the nub.

Overall
The Joseph NicaVana Maduro Exclusivo Toro provides an excellent smoking experience. A complex, well balanced and very flavorful profile with a perfect draw and burn.
