DBL Cigars Extra Viejo Maduro Robusto 12/7/19

Appearance
The dark brown colored wrapper has a couple of thin veins. The seams are tightly wrapped and difficult to find. It has a square box pressed shape. It’s one of those cigars that feels more oily than it looks. The filler bunch is well packed but has a soft spot right behind the primary band. Despite a few imperfections in the wrapper leaf, it’s a good looking cigar.

Aroma
Earth, cedar and spice on the wrapper. Earth, dried fruit, molasses and spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw
Earth, dried fruit, molasses and spice.

1st
The initial draws bring notes of cedar and earth with a hint of spice. The flavor has a bit of “Dominican twang”. The draw is just right. The burn is a bit wavy. The ash is light gray and stacked. The ash dropped at about 1”. Smoke production is at the high range. Strength is medium. The spice which is a cinnamon/crushed red pepper combo is increasing in intensity as the cigar burns.

2nd
The burn has gotten more wavy. Upon inspection of the working end I find 3 tiny tunnels causing the uneven burn. Dried fruit notes join the profile. The finish is long with notes of cedar, earth, dried fruit and crushed red pepper spice.

Final/3rd
The burn has fully self corrected. Faint chocolate notes join the profile. Strength moves to medium+.

Overall
The DBL Cigars Extra Viejo Maduro Robusto provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A complex, well balanced and flavorful profile with a perfect draw and mildly erratic burn.
Definitely a cigar to try.
