Montecristo Epic No.2 Premium Selection 2007 12/21/19

Appearance
A medium brown colored wrapper with a couple of prominent veins. The seams are tightly wrapped and difficult to find. There is a very light oil sheen. The filler bunch is well packed with no apparent soft spots.

Aroma
Barnyard on the wrapper. Cedar, fruit, caramel and spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw
Vanilla, macadamia nuts, dried fruit, cedar, caramel and spice.

1st
The initial draws bring notes of vanilla, almond, cedar and a mild cinnamon spice. The draw is a bit snug but not surprising given the shape of the cigar. A little bit of that “Dominican twang” joins the profile. The spice increases noticeably. The ash is light gray and stacked. The burn is off at 45*. Implementing simple physics. The ash held firm and straight until removal.

2nd
Upon inspection of the working end I find several small tunnels, one right under the binder causing the uneven burn. The flavor notes combine to create a nice overall sweetness to the cigar. Black coffee notes join the profile. The tunnel under the binder has ended. The profile remains well balanced. The ash has become flaky. The finish is long with notes of cedar, vanilla, almond, caramel, Dominican twang, black coffee and cinnamon spice.

Final/3rd
The burn has almost fully self corrected. Draw has fully opened up. Midway in the final/3rd the tunnels are gone and the burn fully self corrects. The flavorful profile continues right to the nub.

Overall
The Montecristo Epic No.2 Premium Selection 2007 provides a vey enjoyable smoking experience. A complex, well balanced and flavorful profile with a snug draw and uneven burn.
