Blackbird Cigar Rook (Sumatra) Robusto 4/18/20

Appearance
A medium brown colored wrapper with a few prominent veins. The seams are tightly wrapped. It has a thick oily sheen. The filler bunch is well packed with no apparent soft spots.

Aroma
Cedar, faint dried fruit and spice on the wrapper. Cedar, sugar cane and spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw
Raisin, dried fruit, black licorice, cedar and spice.

1st
The initial draws bring notes of cedar with a subtle licorice note. The draw is good. The burn has a small wave. The ash is medium gray, stacked and is beginning to bloom on one side. Very faint dried fruit notes bring a nice sweetness to the profile. There is a very distant almost unrecognizable spice in the background. The burn was almost razor sharp but then went the other way as the burn got off by 10 degrees. The ash held firm but was starting to lean before removal.

2nd
Upon inspection of the working end I find 3 tiny tunnels grouped together near the binder causing the erratic burn. The strength started at mild and has moved to mild/medium. The smoke production is at the medium range. About a half inch later the burn has almost fully self corrected. The finish is long with notes of cedar, dried fruit and a mild cinnamon spice. The intensity of the spice continues to ramp up.

Final/3rd
Starting the final/3rd espresso notes join the well balanced profile. Burn and draw are spot on. The well balanced and flavorful profile continues right to the nub.

Overall
The Blackbird Rook Robusto provides an enjoyable smoking experience. A well balanced and flavorful profile with a perfect draw and mildly erratic burn.
