DT&T Sin Compromiso Seleccion No.5 Toro Extra

 Appearance
The dark chocolate colored wrapper has a bit of mottling and some thin veins. The seams are tightly wrapped. It has a soft Box Press. The matte finish feels more oily than it looks. The filler bunch is well packed with no apparent soft spots.

Aroma
Earth, cedar, floral, hickory, cocoa powder and a very faint spice on the wrapper. Cedar, earth, cocoa and a hint of spice at the foot.

Prelight Draw
Earth, cedar, molasses, cocoa powder and nutmeg spice

1st
The initial draws bring very earthy notes(black moist loam) with cedar and a thick blackstrap molasses note as well as a hint of spice. Very thick and rich flavor in the mouth and on the palate. The draw is perfect. The burn is off slightly but it’s early yet. Smoke production is in the high range. The ash is almost white in appearance with double nickel stacking. The strength starts at medium+ and begins building halfway through the 1st/3rd. At an inch and a half in the burn has almost fully self corrected. I’m holding the cigar over my ashtray as the ash is looking very suspect. The profile takes on a meaty/savory note with some black pepper added to the spice notes. The burn goes off again. Ash holds till removal.

2nd
Upon inspection of the working end I notice a 1/4” wide tunnel which is the cause of the burn issue. The ash gets a bit flaky. The black pepper portion of the spice notes tapers back. Espresso notes join the profile which continues to be very well balanced. The finish is long with notes of earth, cedar, molasses, cocoa powder, seared steak, espresso and a nutmeg/black pepper spice combo. The burn has fully self corrected. Strength has moved to med/full while the body remains full.

Final/3rd
The molasses notes fade away. The profile remains consistent, flavorful and rich right to the nub.

Overall
The Sin Compromiso Seleccion No.5 provides a very enjoyable smoking experience. A complex, well balanced and delicious profile with a perfect draw and mildly erratic burn.
Another excellent cigar by Steve Saka @stevesaka and his team at Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust.
