Soneros Maduro Robusto 3/10/19

 Appearance
A chocolate colored wrapper with a couple of thin veins. The seams are tightly wrapped. There is a light oil sheen. The filler bunch is well packed with no apparent soft spots.

Aroma
Earth, cedar and spice on the wrapper. Earth, dried red fruit sweetness and spices at the semi closed foot.

Prelight Draw
Earth, raisin, cedar, dried red fruit and spice.

1st
The initial draws bring notes of earth and espresso with a very faint spice. Smoke production is at the high range. The draw is spot on. The burn is uneven. The profile which started out very bold has taken a step back in intensity. The ash is dark gray, stacked and a bit flaky. The ash was looking very suspect so I removed it early. Upon inspection of the working end I find 2 tunnels, one at the center, the other just inside the binder. They are the obvious cause of the uneven burn. With the help of some simple physics the burn begins to self correct.

2nd
Dried red fruit notes bring sweetness to the profile. The strength is at medium+. The finish is long with notes of earth, espresso, dried red fruit and mild spice.

Final/3rd
The large tunnel at the center of the bunch finally ends. The profile remains consistent right to the nub.

Overall
The Soneros Maduro Robusto provides a somewhat enjoyable smoking experience. A well balanced and flavorful profile with a good draw and uneven burn.
